Some workouts are for anyone. Others are for the elite.

Take triathlons. The grueling contests pit athletes against each other across land and sea for combined distances up to 200 miles. Not for the faint of heart, or spirit.

To tackle any triathlon you’ll need the proper training and a strict workout regimen. Get started on the right foot with the Heart Zone Triathlon training from Alexis Rougas-Ermilio of Adventure Boot Camp. A Certified Heart Zones Triathlon Coach, Alexis is prepping a team of women to take on the Massachusetts State Triathlon in Winchendon on July 18.

But the State race is just one of many triathlons across the state – sometimes literally – the summer. This Sunday kicks off the Lions Spring Sprint Triathlon at the Wayside Raquet and Swim Club in Marlboro, or look for the Escape the Cape Sprint Triathlon in Onset on June 12. For the ultimate endurance race, gear up for the Cross State Trek (that’s Williamstown to Gloucester) – a two day, 200 mile journey the last weekend in June.

Check out a full list of triathlons here.
