In a city known for the over-the-top, the glamorous, and yes, the decadent, it’s difficult to stand out. Massive casinos and hotels smother the Strip, attracting vacationers and gamblers who flock to the iconic street in ridiculously expensive cars. The true city that never sleeps, it’s difficult to impress Las Vegas. But, after five years and billions of dollars invested, the opening of the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas will do just that.
The Las Vegas Strip is lined with elegant resorts, many of which follow themes of grandeur from the Roman or Egyptian civilizations. At the Cosmopolitan the only theme is luxury. Standing across from the Bellagio, the nearly 3,000 guestroom hotel, casino, and retail haven boasts 355 feet of Strip real estate. Just opened on December 15, the Cosmopolitan’s multi-tower layout bursts upwards 50 stories in a stunning vertical design. Despite its massive size, the Cosmopolitan sits on just 8.7 acres of land. This small(ish) landscape helps the resort feel less sprawling as compared to some of the other gargantuan resorts along the Strip. And, since anyone walking into this resort deserves to make an entrance, the Cosmopolitan features a pair of elevated pedestrian bridges to have you rise above the rest.
Inside the hotel’s décor was the vision of acclaimed interior architects The Rockwell Group, Jeffrey Beers, and Adam D. Tihany, among others. The resulting interior design harkens 1960s modernist design within an Art Deco layout reminiscent of Old Blue Eyes’ days on the Strip. The sharp geometric details of the resort give way to exorbitantly luxurious decorations such as grandiose chandeliers and modern LED lighting. With a total of 2,995 guestrooms – including a selection of oversized residential suites – the Cosmopolitan also houses a wide array of dining, retail, and gaming options.
The Cosmopolitan’s accommodations – each designed by the esteemed David Rockwell – feature contemporary bespoke décor. Spacious living areas include the 10 three-story bungalows or the incredible 3,660 square-foot suites, each stuffed with the latest technologies like automatic control panels, plasma televisions, entertainment systems, and wireless internet. Massive bathrooms create an in-room space for tranquility with Japanese soaking tubs, rain showers, and marble floors. And, to take in all the action on the Strip, many rooms include expansive private terraces perfect for entertaining guests or simply enjoying the city’s madness below.
Dining at the Cosmopolitan offers a bevy of options within the resort’s confines. The Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill, a collaboration between brothers Bruce and Eric Bromberg, serves a menu of bistro dishes, classic American comfort foods, chops and filets, and, of course, a wide selection of sushi and sashimi. The restaurant embodies the New York City culinary eclecticism enjoyed by the Bromberg brothers in their youth in New Jersey. For a unique Chinese-Mexican fusion, try out China Poblano. Chef Jose Andres pairs noodles and tacos in his personal blend of two cultures in this lively eatery. For a more traditional dinner, head over to Comme Ca, acclaimed Los Angeles Chef David Myers’ take on a modern French brasserie. The menu offers classic fare with a chic twist along with an impressive wine and cocktail list. And speaking of wine, don’t forget about D.O.C.G. – Chef Scott Conant’s pristine wine bar which takes its name from the highest level of wine origin, Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita. But the dining options don’t end there – there’s still the Greek Estiatorio Milos, Holsteins’ burger bar, the Spanish-inspired Jaleo, Scarpetta’s modern Italian dishes and the famous STK steakhouse concept.
Since good times aren’t just for the evening hours, the Cosmopolitan presents a lively lounge in Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub. Open during the day as a pool club and at night as a hip and eccentric lounge, Marquee boasts 60,000 square feet all designed by David Rockwell. The facility includes seven bars across three rooms: the Main Room, the Library, and the Boom Box Room. To operate the nightclub the Cosmopolitan partnered with the infamous Tao Group, a firm known for establishing the best party spots in New York, Las Vegas, and the Hamptons. Regular acts at the nightclub include the Tao Group’s DJ Vice, global superstar DJ Erick Morillo and American musician Kaskade.
After a long night on the dance floor at Marquee, you may need some time to unwind. The Cosmopolitan offers the perfect retreat in the 43,000 square-foot Sahra Spa and Hammam. Containing 30 treatment rooms, a salon, two fitness centers and a Turkism hammam, Sahra has everything you need for a relaxing day of indulgence. The spa’s design and philosophy capture the essence of the Nevada desert, a blend of intensity and untouched tranquility, while therapies and products such as the Turkish hammam and Arabian rituals bring forth the desert cultures the world over. For ultimate escape, Sahra Spa includes an expansive penthouse spa suite.
For a more lively way to beat the desert heat, dive into one of the Cosmopolitan’s Pool District. The aforementioned Dayclub Pool – connected to the Marquee Nightclub and serving as an extension of the nighttime festivities – offers a pleasing lounge during the day and can be reserved for private functions for up to 1,000 guests. The Boulevard Pool makes any day a party with a central pool and stage set up for an open-air theater. The Boulevard Pool can accommodate up 3,600 guests for private or public affairs with live music and entertainment. Best of all, the pool offers unobstructed views of the heart of the Strip from all directions. Last but not least, the Bamboo Pool provides a secluded relaxation spot. The park-like area is surrounded by grassy banks and covered walkaways that lead to more intimate zones or a more open area flanked by the Cosmopolitan’s towers.
Once the relaxation is done it’s time to hit the shops. The Cosmopolitan houses almost 36,000 square feet of boutique shopping from top retail names such as AllSaints Spitalfields, Beckley, Molly Brown Swimwear, Droog, SKINS 6|2 Cosmetics, and more. The resort’s nine shopping boutiques are enclosed within a magnificent three-story glass facade to separate the shopping experience from the rest of the resort. And if the shopping plaza doesn’t give you enough options to spend your money, head down to the Cosmopolitan’s 100,000 square-foot casino. The gaming area includes the latest in gaming technology and houses semi-private Casino Cabanas with VIP bottle service. While you game, try not to be distracted by the action on the Strip seen through the casino’s grand window views.
Of course, Las Vegas isn’t always just about fun and games. Should you feel the need to get some business done the Cosmopolitan offers 150,000 square feet of meeting space across three floors of the resort. With seven total ballrooms and 46 meeting rooms able to accommodate parties ranging from 12 to 4,000, the Cosmopolitan’s meeting spaces offer the latest innovations primed for business success. Impress clients and partners with a full-range external sound system, flexible-range and accent lighting, and state-of-art presenting tools. Meeting areas on the fourth floor adjoin the Boulevard Pool, providing a compelling area for cocktail receptions before piling out onto the pool grounds.
With all the Cosmopolitan contains you might never need to leave the resort. But the hotel’s central location on the Strip provides the perfect jumping off point for all your Las Vegas adventures. Just don’t pull out your own tooth.
