Held at Westport’s Fairfield County Hunt Club, the 7th annual Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance will play host to the legendary 1939/47 Rolls-Royce Phantom III “Vutotal” Cabriolet by Labourdette. Originally designed by Henry Royce as a Phantom III in the 1930s, coachbuilder Hopper & Co. fit this one-of-a-kind car with a Sedanca de Ville for the chassis in 1938. Touring through Brussels, Amsterdam, and Geneva, the vehicle also made an appearance at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York. In the 1940s coachbuilder Henri Labourdette of Paris rebodied the vehicle to remove almost all traces of Rolls-Royce, developing a swooping open body, streamlined grille, and Labourdette’s signature skiff tail design. The vehicle will appear at the 2010 Fairfield County Concours in thanks to the John W. Rich Automobile Museum.
